How to Get Certified
- Complete 40 hours of ABAT coursework with Mentex School of Counselling & Psychotherapy (online).
- Complete 15 hours of supervised fieldwork. Note: 1 hour of supervision is required for every 10 hours of independent fieldwork. You must enrol in the coursework before beginning fieldwork.
- Obtain a formal recommendation from a qualified QABA-approved supervisor.
- Undergo a criminal background check conducted by the QABA Board.
- Register for and pass the ABAT certification examination, proctored by Examity on behalf of the QABA Board.
- Agree to the QABA Code of Ethics. Your credential will be reviewed and, upon approval, listed on the public QABA registry.
- Renew your credential every two years as per QABA renewal requirements.
Important : About the Examination: The ABAT board examination is conducted by the QABA Board, not by Mentex. The exam fee ($125 USD) is paid directly to the QABA Board when you register. Mentex does not collect or process examination fees.

Board Examination Fee
The ABAT examination fee is fully managed by the QABA Board. Mentex has no authority over examination fee refunds or related policies. Please contact the QABA Board directly for all exam-related queries.
